Benjamin, the third son and fifth of five children of Joseph Adams and Elizabeth Knight was born on 18 January 1728 at Newington, New Hampshire. Benjamin and his father are direct descendants of Mayflower passengers John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. Benjamin served during the American Revolutionary War as an S. Mate with the New Hampshire Militia. He was married twice. Benjamin married 1) Abigail Pickering (1733-1781), the daughter of Lieut. James Pickering and Mary Nutter on 5 June 1751 at Newington, New Hampshire. They had eight children all born at Newington:
1. James Adams (b. 22 Jan 1753; d. 1779),
2. Elizabeth Adams (b. 14 Oct 1754; d. 10 Feb 1756, Newington, NH),
3. Nathan Webb Adams (b. 16 May 1756; d. 1831), m. Elizabeth Cole
4. Ruth Webb Adams (b. 23 May 1758; d. 1825),
5. Mary Adams (b. 12 Aug 1760; d. 1849),
6. Abigail Adams (b. 24 Oct 1770; d. 1823),
7. Benjamin Adams (b. 1 Nov 1773; d. 31 Jul 1831, Portsmouth, NH),
8. Thomas Adams (b. 14 Jun 1779; d. 1865)
Abigail (Pickering) Adams died on 30 September 1781 at Newington. Benjamin married 2) Susannah (Tebbets) Brown on 22 April 1784 at Newington. There are no known children from this union.
Benjamin Adams died on 24 March 1803 in his 75th year at Newington and is buried in the Newington Cemetery at Newington, Rockingham, New Hampshire.
