John was born at 26 Threlfall Street Toxteth Park district of Liverpool county of Lancaster England. Family history has it that he and his brother Alfred hopped a freighter and landed in Canada. Alfred settled in Rumford Maine and John settled in Winslow Maine. He married Edith May Brown on June 29, 1910 in Fairfield Maine. He became the caretaker and gardner (known for his prize peonys) of the Robert Nivison estate on Benton Ave Winslow Maine which was on the lot beside the Winslow town office and police dept. The lot is now a park. John and Edith "Mamie" lived in an apartment over the garage, she was the families cook. Their only child Robert Waldo Jones was born there. John was an amatuer photographer and I have many photos of the Nivison Estate and the peonys, in black and white of course! John was a member of the Winslow Maine fire dept. I have his firemans badge. He also belonged to the Knights of Pythias. He died at age 65 of lung cancer.
