A prominent Des Moines surgeon, Dr. Synhorst was born in Leighton and had lived in Des Moines since 1925. He was associated in practice with Dr. Ralph Dorner before retiring in 1955. He formerly was on the surgical staff of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Synhorst was recently recognized by the Polk County Medical Society Auxiliary as "Physician of the Year." He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Des Moines Club, and the Wakonda Club.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; a son, John V. of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
