Kenion was the first child born to Charles & Nancy (Pate) Hulsey. He died about 1872 & is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave at Cane Creek Baptist Church, not far from where he lived his final days.

His maternal grandparents were William & Catherine Pate who died in Henry Co GA about 1844.

His paternal grandfather is believed to be William Hulsey who died about 1790 in Mecklinburg Co NC. William was married twice, first to Jane Jennings, his 2nd wife unknown. William fathered several children by Jane Jennings, including Jennings Hulsey and William Henry Hulsey. Oral family history states that after William died, Jennings helped raise his younger half siblings which included Asa and Charles Hulsey. Charles Hulsey & Jennings Hulsey married Pate sisters.

Kenion's siblings were: Hilborn Hulsey, Needham Bart Hulsey, Gilford T Hulsey, Milbury Hulsey, William Pate Hulsey, Samantha Hulsey, Catherine Hulsey, Drucilla Hulsey, and Charles Thomas Hulsey.

Kenion was first married on 22 May 1837, Carroll Co GA, to Millie Sanders, b. 1820, d. 1867/68, daughter of Jonathan Sanders & Lucy Adair. They were the parents of Joseph Pate Hulsey, James Bart Hulsey, Needham Whit, William T Hulsey, Hilborn Quincy Hulsey, Rev Thomas Russell Hulsey, John Shipley Hulsey, Charles L Hulsey, Kenion Tarpley Hulsey Jr, Julius McCain Hulsey, and Etta Hulsey.

Kenion married Olive Burns Thomas, widow, on 4 Jan 1868 in Jefferson Co AL. They had one son, Lindsey Peyton Hulsey.
