~LET ALL WHO VISIT BE BLESSED WITH LOVE AND PEACE~

Claire Elise was a vibrant girl, who shed light all around her, and entranced those who met her. Sporty, funny, thoughtful, friendly, creative, determined and quite simply physically stunning, Claire was a popular and loyal friend. And her personality matched her appearance. She was flawless.

She adored her brother and took it upon herself to vet his friends. Even though she was so much younger than Liam, she looked out for him. In return, her brother guided and protected her.

I still remember the day that she drifted off to sleep in my arms for the first time. After that, we were inseparable. To know Claire's love was an indescribable joy.

At the age of eight, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. We protected her from the parts of the diagnosis that she did not need to know about, but I think that she understood how grave her situation was. Regardless, she was determined to beat her affliction, and did everything that she needed to, with composure, a steely will, and an eternal optimism. She succeeded in her fight against the first tumour. She told us that it was gone. The scans confirmed it. Ultimately, Claire fell victim to medical complacency, and did not get the opportunity to fight again.

She filled our hearts, our home, our days and nights. Her presence was gentle, but compelling and comprehensive. The house is too quiet now without her. Our loss is unimaginably hard. Harder still is the understanding that Claire will not have the opportunity to experience the life that she envisaged for herself. The world should have been her oyster.

The world is a lesser place for Claire's passing. Our lives can never be the same, but Lynette, Liam and I have been blessed by having nine years with Claire beside us.

Rest peacefully, little girl. We will always love you and cherish your memory

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow,

I am the sun on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there; I did not die.
