Refugio "Rufus" Gonzalez, 71, of 1826 Horne Road, died Tuesday evening in a local hospital.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post 2397. He retired from Heldenfels Construction Company in 1969 and had served in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Felis Gonzalez of Corpus Christi; four sons, Refugio Jr., and Enrique Gonzalez, both of Taft, Texas. Leonardo and Ricardo Gonzalez, both of Portland, Oregon. Three daughters, Olga Castillo, Ana (Juan) Reyna, and Mrs. Raul Valdez, all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Four brothers Leo Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Placido Gonzalez of Los Angeles, California, Henry Gonzalez of Torrance, California and Antero Jackson of Bogota, New Jersey; five sisters, Esther Gonzalez and Juanita (Gregorio) Ornelas, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Manuela Martinez of Carson, California, Feliz (Joe) Chapa and Consuelo (Rogelio) Rodriguez both of Torrance, California; 33 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
