He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army with the Circle (C) Boys, 71st Squad and was stationed in Germany from 1946-1949. After his tour with the Army, he married the love of his life, Margaret Denner in Columbus, Ohio June 21, 1953.
Robert was retired from the Ryder Trucking Company.
Robert is at peace now that he can be with his loving wife, Teny. A truly unique person, Robert's wit will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by a son, Michael (Deb) Abbott of Mansfield; a daughter, Debbie Martin of West Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Brent (Tara) Martin, Bree Martin, Ashley Abbott and Aaron Abbott; great grandchildren, Chase and Austin Martin, Haydon Gaines and Madison Kiess; two sisters-in-law, Reba Abbott of Knoxville, Tennessee and Rebecca (Herbert) Coon of Shelby, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Denner) Abbott; two brothers, Frank and Glenn Abbott; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Betty Stephenson.
Graveside services conducted by Rev. Dallas Waggle will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Mansfield Memorial Park where full military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
