Elsie was born in Reeder Township, Missaukee County, Michigan to Wopka and Abbie (DeRuiter) VanHaitsma. On June 4, 1943 in Holland, Michigan. She married Harold Beerens and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1972.

Mrs. Beerens was a member of the Cadillac First Church of the Nazarene and a former member of of the Falmouth Reformed Church and the Falmouth Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Beerens, Jeanette Karsten, and Anne Karsten, two brothers Charles and Raymond VanHaitsma and a great grandson Bruce Beerens.
