George A. Sherriff, 38, of 179 East South Street, a veteran of World War II, was found yesterday afternoon shortly after 4:30 o'clock in a bedroom at his home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound of the head. He died a half hour later in Carlisle Hospital.
He had been in ill health for nearly a year.
A member of the Elks Lodge for 21 years, he was a former steward there. He was a member of American Legion Post 101.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Laura Kuntz Sherriff; two sons, Robert Lee and George A., Jr.; a daughter, Nancy Jane, all at home, his father, George Sheriff, Carlisle, two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Barbour, Wormleysburg, and Mrs. William Bradley, Carlisle, and a brother, Harold, Wormleysburg.
Private services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning in the Lutz Funeral Home, with burial in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Shermansdale. Rev. Joseph H. Miller will officate. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday night.
