Miss Mary Jean Barnes, 76, of LaGrange, GA passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Hospice LaGrange.

Miss Barnes was born April 6, 1938 in LaGrange, GA to the late Floyd Amos Barnes and Bessie Mae Adkins Barnes. She had worked as a teacher at LaGrange Academy and Troup County High School. Miss Barnes also worked for the Harris County Sheriff's Department and was currently employed by the Pine Mountain Police Department as Record's Clerk. She will be remembered for her love and dedication to all animals. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Marian Marie Barnes.

Survivors include cousins, Nancy (Don) Newman and Vance Barnes; special friends, Dennis and Betsy Sivell and Dr. Charles and Peggy Harris, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, October 2, 2014 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Mr. Tom Carthy and Dr. Charles Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. The gathering of family and friends will be 1:00pm to 3:00pm Thursday, October 2, 2014, prior to service time.
