In 1932, at Indianapolis, he married Agnes Olivia Hansen, who is a retired teacher from Klondike and Otterbein, and who worked as an attendance worker for Tippecanoe School Corporation for 15 years.
Mr. Steely was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, and was a 65-year member of Octagon F&AM Lodge 511.
Surviving with his widow are a daughter, Verma (Mrs. Edwin) Hargitt of West Lafayette; three sisters, Frances (Mrs. Asher) Dilts of Brookston, Maude (Mrs. Charles) Hawkins, and Ruth (Mrs. Carl) Brenner, both of Lafayette; three brothers, Wilbur Steely, Harry Steely, both of Lafayette, and William Steely of Otterbein; and five grandchildren. A sister, Harriet (Mrs. Harry) Adwell preceded him in death.
