OBITUARY Iron River Reporter January 4 1984 "George Mitchell"
STAMBAUGH-George Franklin Mitchell, 80, of 123 First St., died Friday, Dec. 30, at his home following an illness of the last six months.
Mr. Mitchell was born Oct. 15, 1903, in Norway and attended the Norway public schools before moving to Stambaugh when he was 17. He served with the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg during World War II and for over 45 years was a switchman for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1969.
He married the former Lillian Hawke in August 1942 in Iron River. He was a member of Reino American Legion Post 21, St. Agnes Church and was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard of Colchester, Ill., and Robert of New York, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. John (Patricia) Isaacson of Iron River and Mrs. Gerald (Nellie) Javoroski of Greenfield, Wis.; a sister, Mrs. Irene Mingesz of Iron Mountain; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation was held at the Brooks-Langenberg Funeral Home in Stambaugh on Sunday, Jan. 1. The parish rosary was recited.
Services were held Monday, Jan. 2, at the funeral home and at St. Agnes Church. The Rev. Aloysius Hasenberg, pastor, officiated.
Members of the West Side Veterans Council accorded military rites at the service.
Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery [obviously a mistake-he is buried in Stambaugh Cemetery].
