Dr. Edward R. Drechsler, 38, associate propessor of chemistry at Plattsburgh State University College, died Saturday at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vt.

Hospital officials said that death was caused by a rupture blood vessel in the brain. Dr. Drechsler, a native of Davenport, Iowa, had been hospitalized since May 15.

He had been a member of the Plattsburgh college faculty since February, 1958. Dr. Drechsler held a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Iowa State University, a master of science degree in bio-organic chemistry from Iowa State, and a doctor of philosophy degree in bio-chemistry from the University of Minnesota.

Last December, Dr. Drechsler was awarded a grant-in-aid by the Research Foundation of State University of New York to in vestigate the physical and chemical properties of the enzyme "adolase".

Dr. Drechsler is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children, Elizabeth, 12, Daniel, 6, and Peter,4; his father, Joseph B. Drechsler of Davenport; two sister, Mrs. Willam Kniegge and Mrs. Henry Dismer, both of Davenport.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Adirondack Lane, with Rev. Robert Deady officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The body is at the R.J. Blixt Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
