Dwight Akers Shelor, 75, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on October 8, , 1930 to the late Elroy "Teet" Shelor and Bertie Marshall Shelor. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Shelor, a sister, Eula Mae Dobyns and a granddaughter, Kendra Shelor. Mr. Shelor was the owner/operator of Shelor's Dairy Farm until his retirement in 1994. He loved to grouse hunt and fish and played basketball and baseball. In 1950 he led the Meadows of Dan Basketball team to a state championship, which was the first for Patrick County. He was a member of the Patrick County Recreation Commission for 20 years and led in the building of the Mountain Top Recreation Park. He was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church for over 66 years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and in numerous other capacities. He was a member of the Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club for 30 plus years, where he served as the President, Secretary and Treasurer. He also served in the U. S. Navy. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Annalee B. Shelor, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Becky Shelor of Laurel Fork, Barry and Valerie Shelor of Meadows of Dan, Rob and Debra Shelor of Meadows of Dan; eight grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Don Bakely of Copper Hill, Jason, Aaron, Matthew and Christopher Shelor, all of Meadows of Dan, Paul and wife, Allison Shelor of Raleigh, Gary and wife, Amanda Ross of Christiansburg and Jack Ross of Christiansburg; two nieces, Mrs. Wayne (Betty) Combs of Woodlawn, Mrs. Bob (Sharon) Helms of Patrick Springs; and two nephews, Lee Dobyns of Cape Coral, Fla. and Dr. Tommy Dobyns of Concord. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Shockley and Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Patrick County, 835 Woodland Dr., Suite 101, Stuart, Va. 24171, Vesta Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 238, Vesta, Va. 24177 or to the Meadows of Dan Fire Dept., P. O.
