Joan was born in South Bend, Indiana to Joseph and Liesel Breskin May 20, 1926. She married Samuel New, who precedes her in death, on December 15, 1946.
Joan and Sam spent most of their lives in Elkhart, Indiana, becoming snowbirds to Scottsdale in the early 1970s and making the final move to Scottsdale in 1998.
Joan was a homemaker extraordinaire, with a flair for decorating, love of art, wonderful cook and world class shopper. She loved to needlepoint, making beautiful pillows and purses most of which she gave to family and friends.
She was a generous donor to the Indiana University Jewish Studies Program, South Bend and Phoenix Jewish Federations, Marcus House (now defunct), and many charitable organizations related to children and education.
Donations may be made in her name to the Joan New Endowment Fund at the Arizona Community Foundation.
