She was born on July 31, 1917 in Clinton County, a daughter of the late William C. and Mildred Cast Worthington. She was the last of the direct line of the Clinton County Worthingtons. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and a 1938 graduate of The Ohio State University with a master's degree in music education. She was a proud O.S.U. alumna and followed the Buckeyes games intensely while her health allowed.
Wanda was a retired second-grade teacher of 30-plus years in Waynesville. There she and her husband lived and raised their family of three children from 1949 to 1987, when they returned to Wilmington.
She was a civic-minded lady who firmly believed that family traditions and heritage should be honored, protected and passed down through the generations. A 40-year member of the Clinton County Chapter of the D.A.R., she was also a member of the Wilmington Friends Meeting, the Warren County Historical Society and various civic organizations throughout her life.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, a brother, Bill Worthington, and her beloved and faithful companion of the past 14 years, Russell W. Runnels, are preceded in death.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington, with Julie Rudd officiating.
Friends may call from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South St. in Wilmington. In accordance with her wishes, she will be buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery alongside her parents.
