He graduated from Pana High School. During the first World War he enlisted in the National Guard May 22, 1917, was called to duty June 30, 1917 and honorably discharged July 17, 1917. He attended Northwestern University 1918-1920. He worked for Butler Brothers, a Chicago wholesale corporation until 1932. Then he became a securities analyst. When he retired in 1968 he was a partner of Security Supervisors, a security management firm in Chicago, and vice president of a mutual fund. They lived in Evanston when first married and later in Winnetka, IL. In 1968 they moved to Newport Beach, CA and later returned to Evanston, IL.
