George B. Tiffany

George B. Tiffany, age 89, of 9125 SR 3001, Laceyville, Pa., (North Flat) passed away early Sunday morning, October 5, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, Pa., where he had been a resident for the last eight months.

George was born in Tunkhannock, Pa., on April 26, 1925, the son of the late John I. and Edith Valentine Tiffany. He was a graduate of Laceyville High School Class of 1943. After graduation George proudly served his country with the United States Army as a Technician Fifth Class with the 104th Timberwolf Division during World War II in the European Theater in Germany, Belgium, and France. He also served in the Military Police in Marseille, France before coming home.

George married the former Ferne A. Otten on June 5, 1949 and they were married for over 65 years. George worked at Proctor & Gamble Paper Products in Mehoopany, Pa., for 20 years before retiring in 1989. In July of this year he celebrated 25 years of retirement. He also owned and operated a dairy farm in North Flat. He also owned a trucking business that hauled coal in the Laceyville and surrounding areas. George also was a substitute mail carrier out of the Laceyville Post Office for many years.

He was a former Wyalusing Valley High School Director. George attended the Mehoopany Baptist Church. He was a member of the Franklin Lodge No. 263 F&AM in Laceyville, Pa., for over 50 years and a member of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion for over 55 years. George was a former member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the P&G Retirees Club and loved traveling over the past years with the P&G retirees. He took pride in keeping his farm looking its best and was a busy man who just enjoyed to work.

George is survived by his wife Ferne A. Otten Tiffany; his children Maureen (Kevin) Downs of Wyalusing, Pa., Curtis (Terri) Tiffany of Laceyville, Pa., Beth Tiffany of Laceyville, Pa., and Lisa (Bobby) Adams of Bivalve, Md. Also surviving are six grandchildren Erin Downs, Michelle (Scott) Lambert, Kristin Tiffany, Christopher Tiffany, Jonathan Adams, Laura Adams; two great-grandchildren Gavyn Lambert and Reese Labmert. One niece, three nephews, and several cousins are also surviving. Besides his parents George is preceded in death by his son Craig M. Tiffany (December 31, 2005) and grandson Nathan Tiffany Downs (January 26, 1982).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Sheldon Funeral Homes, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa., with Reverend Joseph Billingsly of the Mehoopany Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville, Pa., following the funeral service. Graveside military services will be conducted by the members of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post No. 457 American Legion, and the Endless Mountains V.F.W. Post No. 3583. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening, Oct. 7, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral services on Wednesday. Masonic services will be conducted Tuesday evening by the members of the Franklin Lodge No. 263 F&AM at 8 p.m.
