Born on March 13, 1935 in Beech Creek, Pa. Don was the son of the late James and Mary [Anderson] Hevner. He attended school in Beech Creek but left school as a teenager to pursue employment. He had a few jobs before being hired by the Ingersoll Rand Co., in Painted Post where he worked in the Shipping & Receiving Dept, retiring from Dresser Rand with 32 yrs of active service.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat.
On Sept. 26, 1976, he and the former Phyllis Crowl were married. Phyllis preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2011. Don was also predeceased by his son, Robert Hevner on June 28, 1994, his brother, Thomas Hevner and his sisters, Marian Hanley, Helen Bowman, Martha Bowman, Alice Butler, Ruby Morton, Margaret Shady.
Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved camping. He and Phyllis and their family spent many wonderful times together camping. He was also a talented woodworker.
He is survived by his son Randy [Becky] Hevner of Cape Coral, Fl., his daughters, Juanita [Randy] Huyler of Corning, Janelle Lockwood of Cape Coral, Fl., and Janette Hevner [Edd Wendling] of Woodhull, his step son, Christopher Chilson of Fancher, NY, step daughters, Renee Chilson, of Clarendon, NY, and Denise Wilson of Beaver Dams, his grandchildren Stacy, David, Dustin, Audrea, Erik,Kaleb, Katelyn, Alissa, Suzanne, Jessica, Melissa, Nicholas, Kayla, Kori, Brett Jr.,Shelby, Brenden, and Kristina. his sisters Shirley [Bill] Rishel of Castanea, Pa., Ruth Herlocher of Addison, Nancy [Ken] Dickey of Mill Hall, Pa., and Gertrude Masden of Richmond and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Services were held at H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St., Woodhull, Ny. on Tues. Sept. 30, 2014 with Rev. Ed Collins officiating.
Burial is at Woodhull Cemetary.
