Gilma graduated from Harmony High School in 1951 and married Myron D. Scheevel on December 27, 1952 at the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.

Gilma had a very colorful and eclectic work history. Above and beyond being a mother and an active farm wife Gilma was secretary to the Superintendent of schools, founded and operated the Villager Drive-Inn in Canton from 1962 to 1974, drove school bus for the Harmony School district for 25 years, co-founded and operated Amish Country Tours and co-founded and operated the Village Green retail shops from 1987 until her illness took her away from performing her duties in 1992. Gilma was known in the community as an enthusiastic person with a great entrepreneurial spirit. She served the Harmony Ambulance for eight years, was a member of the Rachel Circle at her church and was a member of the Harmony Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, 3 children, and 3 grandchildren.

Gilma was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law Elmer and Marie Scheevel, a sister Lucille (Gaylon) Richardson and her grandson Daniel Mark Scheevel.

Gilma was passionate about a lot of things in her life. Her commitment to family, friends, home, community and her church were top on the list, but the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings, along with businesses and volunteerism were also high on her list of priorities.
