Ed was the son of Willie E. Lee and Clyda Mae Lee. He had two brothers (Eston and Ira B.) and one sister (Martha) who all lived close to each other. He also had many step-siblings as his mother remarried after his father died at age 27.
Ed was age 3 when his father died of Labor pneumonia and Spanish Influenza. He did not finish school as he was needed at home to work. He married Vadie Mae Lee on 06 Mar 1936 at the young age of 17. They lived on Lee's Union Church Rd, Four Oaks, NC. He owned many acres of land and worked as a farmer and as an auto mechanic. He was blessed with a mechanical ability and he worked for years at the Ford place in Smithfield as "the transmission man". He enjoyed auctions, spending time as a volunteer firefighter at Stricklands Crossroads and visiting Myrtle Beach, SC. He dabbled with the guitar and played a handmade flute. He also liked to carve small things, mainly slingshots. He would give these as gifts with a $2 bill attached to them. He taught me how to whistle and he taught me how to drive. He was a serious man of few words but he had a good sense of humor. He was over 6 ft tall with blue eyes, black wavy hair, long legs and fair complexion. When the occasion called for it, he was quite the sharp dresser.
Vadie, passed away in July 2010. Two years later, Ed fell at home and died in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, NC at age 94.
