"The death of Mrs. Adeline Reed, widow of the late James Austin, took place at her home on Chestnut street, in Cooperstown, Sunday morning, December 26th, following a shock last December from which she did not rally. She had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Austin was the youngest daughter of James and Sophia Reed and was born in Springfield, this county, August 21, 1837. She resided there until 1862, when the family removed to Little Falls, where she was married to James Austin in 1887 and since that time had made her home in Cooperstown. Mr. Austin's death took place December 24th, 1898 [sic]. One step-daughter, Miss Mary F. Austin, who resided at home and whom the deceased regarded as her own daughter, survives. She was a member of the First Baptist church of Cooperstown and a woman of true, sweet Christian character. She had many friends both in the church and community who will sorely miss her. The funeral was held at the house, Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Frank S. Squyer officiating, with interment in Lakewood cemetery." [The Otsego Farmer (Cooperstown, NY), Dec. 31, 1915, p. 8]
