Cecil Ray Bullington was born on April 11, 1899 in Union Township, Plymouth County, Iowa to Leonard Thomas Bullington and Esther Ann McClain Bullington. He was one of at least six children and his siblings included:

Edith Fern Bullington Stephenson
Hazel Cynthia Bullington Walker
Ralph Leroy Bullington
Leonard McClain Bullington
Robert Earl Bullington

On December 24, 1924, Cecil Ray Bullington married Johanna McKettrick. No children were found in research. Evidently Cecil and Johanna had divorced since she remarried in 1929 to Anthony Francis Dominick 1900-1975. Johanna was born in 1904 with no death date found. Her second husband remarried in 1938 to Flora Mae Crawford. So either Johanna died before 1938 or she and Anthony also divorced. No records indicate that Cecil Ray Bullington ever remarried. A 1940 Federal Census record shows him as single.

Cecil Ray Bullington died the day after Independence Day in 1946 in Union Center, Oregon.

The circumstances of Cecil's death are both sad and tragic:

Cecil Bullington Committed Suicide Friday Evening
Found Dead In Garage With Shot Gun Nearby

Cecil Bullington, who operated an oil station and garage, at Union center near the consolidated school, committed suicide Friday evening by shooting himself with a shotgun. He was last seen about 6 p. m. when a customer called for some work. Almost two hours later another customer called and failing to find Bullington went to the Manson store nearby to inquire for him. Mr. Manson accompanied him to the garage and they found Bullington dead on the shop floor. He had seated himself in a chair, pointed the gun at his chest and pulled the trigger by hooking it over the faucet of an oil barrel. He had been dead for sometime when found.

Cecil Ray Bullington was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bullington and was born April 11, 1899, in Union township, where he had lived all his life. He never married and in recent years had conducted a garage and oil station near the consolidated school and was kept busy as a mechanic.

He is survived by his father, two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Stephenson and Mrs. Hazel Walker and three brothers, Ray Bullington of LeMars; Mac Bullington of Portland, Oregon and Robert Bullington of Bellevue, Nebraska. His mother died 17 years ago.

Funeral services were held at 2 Monday afternoon at the Union Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. E. M. Miller and burial was in the LeMars city cemetery.
