Craig Gordon Smith was born November 13, 1951, in the Old Weld County Hospital in Greeley, Colorado, to parents Glen E. and Phyllis Smith. He passed away at his home in Canton, Connecticut, on May 25, 2003, after a brief illness with cancer. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens in Greeley, Colorado. Reverend Keith Merriman will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Allnutt Funeral Service/Macy Chapel, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO. Craig was educated in Greeley Public Schools, graduating from Greeley Central in 1969. He received a B.S. Degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1973. He earned his Masters and Doctorial Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkley, graduating in 1978. Craig started working for Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, after graduation and spent his career with Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. He took early retirement from Lucent last year. Craig was an avid reader, loved music, and did fascinating and complicated projects on his computer. But his special enjoyment in life came from ballroom dancing for pleasure and competition. Special thanks to his friends and dance family at the Steps In Time Dance Studio in Canton, Connecticut, for their help and care. Craig is survived by his mother, Phyllis Smith of Fort Collins, CO; sister Terri Ryan also of Fort Collins; brothers Brad Smith and his wife Shirley of Oklahoma City, OK; and Scott Smith and his wife Katie of Lakewood, CO. Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Glen E. Smith. Contributions may be made to the Craig G.
