Funeral service to be held on Wednesday afternoon at the First Christian Church. Reverend Robert Cueni will lead the service. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Family visitation at Stone Funeral Home starting Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning.

Survivors include his wife, Nell (died 2005); one daughter of Flint, Michigan; a son of the home; and four grandchildren.

Walter died at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, St. Petersburg, Florida. He was 65 and born July 6, 1906 in Nappanee, Indiana. His family moved to Bear Creek Township in 1911. Graduate of Petoskey High School. He married Nell Ridings on November 10, 1929 in Petoskey and they lived in Petoskey for many years. He was employed for 15 years at the Home Dairy and another 16 years with Vaughan Floor Covering, retiring in 1970. Parents were John Franklin and Emma M. (Kahler) Kring; four children from this union: Merle (1900 - 1969); Vera Kring Kocher (1904 - 1951); Walter (1906 - 1972); and Ruth (1907 - ?).

Walter was a member of the Masons, Durand Lodge, Number 344; a member of the Petoskey Lodge Number 282 of the Odd Fellows. He belonged to the First Christian Church. serving as a trustee and elder. He was past president and charter member of the Lion's Club. He was involved with organizing the city planning commision as well as a past member. He was involved with Boy Scout Troop Number 158 for years. Also served as chariman of the Emmeet County March of Dimes.
