Mom was born in San Francisco, California the second daughter of Dr. George and Janie Cuneo. A few years later the family moved to Bakersfield where her father practiced dentistry. She attended St. Joseph's elementary school. She was proud to be in the the first graduating class of East Bakersfield High School. She graduated from San Jose State University with a teaching credential and taught first grade at Jefferson school. October 16, 1946 she married Joseph Clerou. They had six children and started a family business Clerou Tire Co. that is still family run today.
Faith, family, friends and football were her passion. Thirty eight years ago the family purchased a home in Cayucos where we spent many happy days with family, friends and feasting. All of her six children, fifteen grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren have found memories of beach days with Grandma. She was a devoted wife and mother who took an active interest in all of our lives.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents George and Janie Cuneo, her husband Joseph Clerou and her sister Roselyn Baumgardt. Mom was the last of her generation in the Clerou family. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Cathy Clark (Joe Clark), Janie Reiland (John Reiland), Denise Bealessio (Paul Bealessio) and sons and their spouses Joe Clerou(Diane Clerou),
Louie Clerou (Kim Clerou) and George Clerou (Sandy Clerou) and many grandchildren.
We would like to thank Hoffman Hospice for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers she would appreciate a donation to Garces Memorial High School. The Celebration of Life will take place at St. Phillips the Apostle Church on Stockdale Hwy at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.
