Was born in Cherokee County Alabama and moved to Pleasant Hill Ohio with his family in 1865. In his early life his fathers farm was destroyed. He assisted his father in farming and attended district schools for about three months each year and enjoyed no holidays. In the autumn of 1877 he walked four miles to attend high school, pursuing his education in the instruction for three months. He then engaged in teaching in district schools through the winter season, while in the summer months he assisted his father in the work of the farm and attended normal sessions. He was thus engaged until 1883 and in 1884 he won the degree of bachelor of science. Soon afterward he accepted the position of superintendent of high school in Versailles where he remained for one year. He then became superintendent of schools of Arcanum for two years. While filling that position he received a call by telephone, entirely unsolicited by him, offering him the superintendency of the school at Bradford Ohio for three years. He accepted and was in charge at that place for five years, proving a most capable superintendent. On leaving Bradford he took up the study of medicine in the Wooster normal College, of Cleveland, and after one term matriculated in the Ohio medical College, in Cincinnati. Subsequently, however, he returned to Wooster College and was graduated with the class of 1892. He began to practice as a physician in Pleasant Hill Ohio. He then took up practice in West Baltimore Ohio (Now Veronia). Later he moved to Piqua Ohio where he practiced for five years. He practiced medicine for three years in Emporia Kansas and moved to Springfield Ohio in 1904. He had since been a resident and practicing physician in this city. He specialized in diet problems and was considered an authority on foods. Dr. Cromer was a member of Pleasant Hill Lodge of Masons, a member of the Knights of Pythias, and was active in the work of the Clark County medical society and the Clark County Horticultural society. He was a member of the High Street Methodist church. Dr. Cromer is survived by his widow and four sons: Rev. Horace F. Cromer , pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Williamsburg, VA; Stuart P. Cromer teacher in a high school in Columbus, O; William J. Cromer, superintendent of schools in Lehigh IA; and Paul E.Cromer, assistant principal of Parker high school, Dayton, O.
