He married Leona Parisot, a native of France, on Nov. 29, 1905 in Scranton PA where they raised a family of four. (Their home on N. Sumner Ave. is also the home where my brother and I were raised.) Their children were George, Aline, Leona, and John, my father, who was always called Jack.
I have only very vague memories of my Grandpa Withers since I was only four when he died. I do remember that, being a gardner, he loved plants and flowers and always had a large vegetable garden in the back yard.
After forty years of marriage, his wife passed away and I've been told that he lost his desire to live after she left. He followed her fourteen months later. He was survived by his four children and six grandchildren. Services were held at Tague Funeral Home in Scranton and burial was at Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton PA where his wife, his sister Jennie Broadhurst and daughter Leona Gibbs have also been laid to rest.
