Emil A. Krause, 87, of Missoula died March 18, 2006, in Sonora, Calif., of natural causes.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1918, in Wadena, Minn., to Paul and Tina Krause.

Emil attended the Minnesota School of Business and was a World War II veteran. He married Margaret Beckman in Minnesota; they later divorced. He worked at a bank in Clarissa, Minn., before moving to Butte in 1956. In Butte he worked at Eddy's Bakery until landing a job with Montana Power Co., where he spent 30 years in accounts payable until he retired in 1983. He moved to Missoula in 1989, where he enjoyed his retirement and made many friends.

He loved music and played a variety of instruments by ear. He enjoyed automobiles. Emil was very active in his church, where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was church treasurer. He was very social and had a great sense of humor.

Emil was a very spiritual, devoted Christian who loved everyone and touched many. He loved God, his country and life. He will be greatly missed. He was a beloved father, grandfather and will be in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; a sister; and grandson, Michael.

Survivors include his daughters, Edie (Roger) Dye of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Cindy (Jerry) Coffman of Pendleton, Ore., Rita (Brian) Birky of Missoula; sons, Walt (Nancy) Krause of Elk River, Minn., Rich (Donna) Krause of Butte, and Ray Krause of Butte; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd (Sharon) Krause of Sonora; sisters, Viola Bartelt of Isanti, Minn., and Alma Bass of Bertha, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday in Garden City Funeral Home, Missoula, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Missoula, St. Mark Lutheran Church in Butte, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
