"The death of Mrs. Claudine F. (Stocker) Cruttenden, widow of Dr. Harry L. Cruttenden, occurred at 10:30 Tuesday morning at her home on Chestnut Street following a long illness. Her age was 89. Mrs. Cruttenden was born in Cherry Valley on July 12, 1867, a daughter of Morgan R. and Elizabeth (Story) Stocker. she attended Cooperstown High School, and studied music in New York City. She was an accomplished pianist, and for 30 years was organist at the First Presbyterian Church of this village. She was the oldest communicant of the Presbyterian Church, and has been a member of Otsego Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, since 1898. She also was a member of the Lake and Valley Garden Club, and a former member of the Cooperstown Woman's Club. On June 21, 1888, she married Jesse B. Johnston. His death occurred on September 23, 1899. She married Dr. Harry L. Cruttenden in this village on June 12, 1906. He died on January 19, 1941. Mrs. Cruttenden is survived by a son, Morgan N. Johnston of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Miss Elizabeth B. Johnston and Mrs. Claudine J. Schenck, both of Cooperstown, and Mrs. Philip Cleland of Reading, Conn.; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jean S. Mann and Miss Elizabeth Story Cleland, both of Reading, and Robert Story Johnston of Charlotte; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services, in charge of the Ingalls Funeral Home, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First Presbyterian Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Walter R. Graig, officiating.
