OBITUARY.
George W. Farnam, a former resident of Yonkers, died yesterday, at his home, 179 Quincy street, Brooklyn, N.Y., at the age of about 70 years. News of his death reached Yonkers today.
At one time Mr. Farnam lived in Palisade avenue, and he had also resided in Buena Vista avenue, this city. He used to belong to Kitching Post, Grand Army of the Republic. When the Yonkers Athena, a literary and debating society, was organized, in 1879, Mr. Farnam was a charter member and he attended and spoke at several of the reunion dinners held in the last few years, at the City Club.
It was about 20 years ago that he removed from Yonkers. While a resident of this city he had an interest in a New York factory that made hat trimmings and traveled as a salesman for the concern's product. It is understood that he had been in the picture-framing business in Manhattan, recently.
He is survived by his wife, who was a Miss Wheelock, and by several daughters. The funeral will be private.
Ethelbert Belknap, who was a close friend of Mr. Farnam, left for Brooklyn, this morning, after learning of his death.
