John was born on 7/5/1890 in Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Ireland the 9th child of a Tax Collector, John P. Kelly. The government was Protestant and you had to be a Protestant to get a government job. His Mother was a devout Catholic and John as well as all the siblings were raised in the church, a condition of a catholic marriage. Johns mother died from complications of giving birth to twins however there were no survives. There were 11children: Thomas Patrick Jan. 23, 1876, Mary Ellen Nov. 22, 1877, John Jan. 9, 1879, Anne Catherine Nov. 25, 1880, Patrick Jan. 20, 1884, Joseph May 26, 1885, Denis Aug. 15, 1886, Mary May 10, 1888, John July 5, 1890, Margaret Mary Oct. 16, 1892, and Robert Jan. 23, 1898. By 1901 census there was five children living at home. All of her children was taken by his oldest son Thomas to raise. The children did not get along with Thomas' wife, Sarah. All of the siblings except Thomas Imigrated to America he chose to remain in Ireland. Patrick was the first to immigrate followed by Denis, Mary, John, then Joseph. John on 10/20/1907. He sailed from Queentown, Ireland landing in NY at Ellis Island. He lived for a short time in New York with his brother Patrick. He got work in an auto assembly plant John was drafted into the Army in World War I and won his naturalization at the wars end. When the war was over he went back to New Jersey and worked in an auto assembly plant for a total of 16 years, When the Second World War broke out he was to old to fight he said so he moved to Pueblo to work in the Ordinance Depot as a guard. Safety was not concern in the war effort and there were a lot of accidental explosions. He decided discretion was the better part of valor and he retired as soon as the war was over.
John never married perhaps he was to shy or just never found his soul mate. John was a frequent dinner guest. He was a quite, kind man who never raised his voice or said anything disparaging about anyone. Even a misplaced hammer blow did not solicit even a Damm. He would talk to you as an adult and never got tired of answering a little boys questions. His religion was very important to him. He attended mass every morning. He lived his faith.

John bought a car. He had assembled them years ago but never driven one. Coordination of the clutch, gas and the brake was fun to watch. It jumped, it bucked, great clouds of dust, and had a mind of its own as to where it went. My sister Sara who was not quite 14 taught John to drive it. Things like she did not have a license and was not even old enough to get a licenes or the fact she never had driven a car before did not seem to bother either one of them.

John Died the summer on 7/18/1957 from stomach cancer in his home just two blocks from his church in Pueblo, Colorado. He is buried next to his brother Denis. Fred Wale (part of my extended family and neighbor).
