Richard "Beetle" Nelson Bailey, age 85 of Millville, reached the end of life's journey on Thurs., Oct. 9, 2014.

After graduating from Millville High School class of 1947, he spent a year as a carry-in boy at Kimble Glass, Vineland.

He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1948 and was a veteran of the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War. His assignments took him to Germany, Alaska and Puerto Rico, as well as many bases in the United States.

Following his military service, he worked briefly at Airwork Corp., formerly of Millville, then headed west to work for four years for United Air Lines at its overhaul shops in San Francisco International Airport. He then joined T.W.A. where he completed his training course in Kansas City, MO, then served as flight engineer on its Constellation fleet. After three years, and in anticipation of the demise of the Flight Engineer's trade, he returned to Airwork Corp. where he worked as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic, and married. He retired in 1994 after 34 years of employment.

He was a member of Nabb-Leslie Post 82 of the American Legion, and for a decade, he played trombone in the band participating in many parades and concerts.

He is survived by his daughter Destra L. C. and husband Glenn; and his beloved grandson Aaron C., all of Millville.

He was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Robbins) Bailey in 2011.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thurs., Oct. 16, in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville, at 11 a.m.
