OREM, Utah — Norma Jean (Trout) Lightfoot, a resident of Elkhart, Ind., for 67 years, left this life Saturday, Oct. 17, at age 89 in Orem.

She was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Mason Township, Cass County, Mich., to Claude Harvey and Blanche Gushwa Trout. She was raised on Trout Centennial Farm in Union, Mich. (Trout Road), where her sister and only sibling, Doris Joy Trout Powers, still lives.

After graduating from Bristol (Ind.) High School in 1945, she worked in the office at C.G. Conn musical instruments in Elkhart.

She was married in January 1946 and had three children, Larry Dale, Mary Margaret and Rosanna Jean Lawson.

She worked at Miles/​Bayer Laboratories for 31 years, retiring in 1991.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Elkhart for 60 years. She was an amazingly dedicated Christian, a kind and sweet peacemaker and the most loving mother a child could ever have. She had many good friends. She loved to garden (flowers), travel, visit grandchildren, spend winters with her daughter in Florida, crochet, walk along the Saint Joseph River and golf. She spent the last years of her life with her son in Utah. She was especially close to her granddaughter, Angela Davis of Elkhart.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Trout Powers of Union; three children, Larry (Carol) Lawson of Orem, Mary (Terry) Toth of Tucson, Ariz., and Rosanna (Chris) Glover of Rockledge, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Her ashes will be buried next to her parents in East Union Cemetery in Cass County. A private graveside service will be Friday, Oct. 30.
