Fred J. Meyer Passes March 12.

Resident here for more than 50 years. It is with sorrow in which the community shares that we announce the passing of Frederick Meyer at his home in the city at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 1935, at the age of 81 years, five months and 13 days, his demise being due to the infirmities incident to age.

He was born in Levern, Germany, September 29, 1853, where he was baptized and became a communicant member of the Lutheran Church.

At the age of 16 years he, with an elder brother, emigrated to America. He first came to Garnavillo and later to Postville, where he made his home.

On June 27 , 1883, he was married to Charlotte Schroeder, and their wedded life extended over a period of more than 50 years. To this union were born 12 children, three of which died early childhood.

The larger part of his life was spent on a farm near Postville, where he labored for many years. About 14 years ago he moved to Postville to rest from his labors after many years of arduous toil.

Besides his age to wife he leaves tomorrow and his lost seven sons, Charles a Bridgewater, S. D.; Fred, William, Henry, Christ and Louis, all of Postville; and Eddie of Castalia; also three daughters, Mrs. Mary Schlee and Mrs. Ella Hoth, of Postville; and Mrs. Helen Koevenig of Decorah. There are also 29 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Meier was a kind husband and indulgent father, a good citizen, neighbor and friend, whose passing is morn by all who knew this genial, kindly gentleman.

The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the city at 2 o'clock last Friday afternoon, the Rev. are. R. B. Garten officiating and the assemblage of souring friends and the many beautiful floral offerings all attested the high place He held in a community that had been his home for many years. Interment was made in the postal cemetery.
