He moved to Tahoka Texas in 1928. On December 3, 1932, he married Dorys McGonagill in Tahoka and they made their home there, where he was engaged in farming.
Ward was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tahoka. He was active in various farm organizations and served as a board member of the Producers Gin Cooperative as well as president. He was also a member of the Soil Conservation District and the Texas Farm Bureau.
He had two brothers, John Eakin and O'keefe Eakin and three sisters, Coila Eakin, Eva Eakin Hoover and Mary Eakin Cantrell. A brother and sister died in infancy.
