The body of Frederick W. Herman was brought to Culbertson last Saturday from Lincoln, where death overtook the early Hayes county settler at his Lincoln home, and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon with Gregg and Herrmann in charge.

Frederick W. Herman was born on November 6, 1845 at Schenectady, New York and while yet a young man, his parents moved west to Milton, New York, and his boyhood and youth were spent near that place.

He was united in marriage to Isabelle Wiswall of Ballston Spa, New York on February 27, 1879. To this union were born six children, the eldest of whom passed on at the age of four years, and a daughter, Mrs. Jennie L. West, preceded him in death six years ago.

In the year of 1888 he brought his family to Hayes county where he was one of the pioneers who helped much in the development of that community and lived there until 1909 when the family moved to Culbertson. They resided here ten years and then moved to Lincoln to place their youngest daughter in the Nebraska university.

He was a conscientious and devoted father and loyal to a trust wherever placed.

He died at his home in Lincoln Friday evening, December 18, having been ill three weeks and enduring much suffering. He leaves as immediate family, his true and loving helpmate, Mrs. Isabelle W. Herman; two daughters, Mrs. G.G. Eisenhart of Culbertson; and Mrs. Leland S. Paine of Philadelphia; two sons, Charles A. Herman of Lincoln and Richard E. Herman of Cornelius, Oregon; and eighteen grandchildren.
