Vernon T. Chaney Sr., 84, of Plainview, AR, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, AR.
The son of Edgar Chaney and Martha D. Morris Chaney, he was born September 2, 1930 in Waltreak, AR.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He retired after 34 years of service having held such titles as Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent and Wing Senior Enlisted Advisor;
He received the Bronze Star, meritorious service Medal, Air Force commendation medal with 1 silver oak leaf cluster, Air Force good conduct medal with 1 silver and 1 bronze oak leaf cluster, Korean and Vietnam service medals and many more.
Vernon was a member of the member Plainview First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 56 years Elizabeth Ann Smith Chaney; two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon T. Chaney, Jr. of Plainview, Michael J. Chaney (Dana) of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Linda K. Johnson (Dana)of Elizabethtown, KY, Sonja R. Davis (Joseph)of Ellamore, WV; two sisters, Laverne Blocker of Morrilton, AR, Joyce Gatlin of Fort Smith, AR;12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, October 18, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Plainview. Reverend Joe Yates will officiate. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Plainview, AR by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Friday, at the funeral home.
