Esther E. Gray, 84, of Marietta, passed away Friday (March 29, 2013) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 5, 1928, in Middlebourne, W.Va. to James W. and Delcie (Haught) Howard but was raised in Sistersville. Esther retired from Nelson Drug Store and was a past member of the fraternal order of the Eagles and the Eagles Woman's Auxiliary. She enjoyed making crafts and walking around Marietta.

Surviving are her children, Robert "Bob" Gray Jr. of Richmond, Va. and Brenda Hartlage (Jim) of Marietta. Also surviving are grandchildren, John Gray (Stephanie), Meaghan Pantoni (Damian), Meredith Gray, MacKenzie Gray, Dale Goddard Jr., Shane Goddard, Ruthie Jett (Steve), Will Gray Jr. (Faith) and Josh Gray (Danielle); and great-grandchildren, Grayson, Austin, Nicholas, C.J., Tadd, Nathan, Taylor, Jessica, Josselyn, Alex, Rebecca, Ceceila, Alyssa and William III; along with great-great-grandchildren, Tacie, Jalynn, Maddie, Abby, and Braydon. A brother, Glen Howard of Alpharetta, Ga. also survives.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her daughter, Tanya Thacker; son, William R. Gray; her former husband, Robert Gray Sr.; and siblings, Edna, Bernice, Lawrence, Bessie, Andrew, Erman, John and Ida.
