"The death of Miss Mary F. Austin of this village occurred Thursday afternoon of last week at the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital following a brief illness. Her age was seventy-seven. Miss Austin was born in the town of Exeter on October 2, 1868, a daughter of James and Harriet (Krum) Austin. She moved to Cooperstown with her parents in early childhood, and was graduated from the Cooperstown Union Free school in 1885. She had made her home here continually since that time, and fourteen years ago took up her residence at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home on Grove street. Miss Austin was a member of the First Baptist church here and had for many years been chairman of the Missionary Literature committee of the First Baptist church and vice-president of its Missionary society. At the time of her death she was secretary of the Cooperstown unit of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. In its early days, Miss Austin had been chairman of the Cooperstown Council of Church Women. Only surviving near relative is a cousin, Mrs. D. F. Kelly of Tarrytown, whose summer home is 'Little Hermitage' on Otsego Lake. Funeral services were held from the Tillapaugh Funeral home Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with the Rev. Walter A. Miller, pastor the Westville Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Westville."
