Mrs. Bertha E Althaus, 92, of 1905 Perrsburg-Holland Rd., Holland, who with her late husband, Samuel, had operated several Toledgo area grocery stores, died Tuesday in San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. Althaus was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Minerava Sayen, at the time of her death. She and her husband owned stores at Eleanor and Lyman avenues; Eleanor and Bennett Road, Jackman Road and Mansfield Street, and in the 2600 block of Upton Avenue. The last store was sold in 1950, two years before Mr. Althaus died.
Mrs. Althaus was a member of Monroe Street United Methodist Church for more than a half century.
Also surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Ellen Orrin and Mrs. Theodosia Vuille.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ansberg-West Mortuary. The family requests that any tributes be in the form of contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.
