Alice Faye Basham Meadows, age 63, of Cool Ridge, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, W.Va. with her beloved husband, two sisters, and other family and friends by her side. Born on June 4, 1948 at Beckley, she was the youngest child of the late Reverend Lenzie V. Basham and Gladie Clark Basham. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Kenneth V. Basham; and a sister, Linda Mae Basham.
Alice retired from the Giant Food Store with 22 years of service, and also worked at Walmart in Crab Orchard and Beckley, W.Va. She is survived by her loving, caring, wonderful, and devoted husband of 44 years, Carl L. Meadows Sr. of Cool Ridge, W.Va.; two sons, Carl Lee Meadows Jr. and wife Alison, and their twin daughters, Clara Alice and Libby Gayle, all of Arlington, Va., John L. Meadows and his wife Kim, and their children Kayla, and Garrett, all of Springfield, Va., and Nicholas Walters, and his wife Nikki of Tallahassee, Fla. Other survivors include two brothers, Vernon “Buz” Basham and his wife Adine, and David “Bo” Basham and his wife Ginny, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Shelby J. Basham Keaton, and Mary Basham Grose and her husband Wes, all of Cool Ridge, W.Va.; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Alice Basham Meadows will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Danny Gilfilen officiating. Burial will follow at the Jennings Cemetery at Stovall Ridge, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Trae Via, Roger Ballard Sr., Wesley M. Grose Jr., Tony Miles, Ronnie Meadows, Jeremy and Willie Worley, and Colin Lilly.
