This Alexander Fulton was born in Ross County, Ohio, in 1826. In this period of time there were three Alexander Fultons in Ohio. This Alexander was the son of William and Mary Coleman.

William was a veteran of the War of 1812 and in lieu of receiving pay for his service, the government awarded him a land grant. The William and Mary (Coleman) Fulton family bible indicates that William and Mary moved their family to a 1,300 acre tract of land in Wapello County in Iowa Territory prior to 1850, probably in 1842, where they engaged in farming.

Mary died in Wapello County in May 1850 according to this same family bible, but her burial place is not mentioned and is now unknown. The 1850 Wapello County Iowa Census did not have her name included in the household and lists only William and seven of his children ranging in age from one to twenty-four years of age.. Alexander was 24 at that time.

No records are known to exist showing that Alexander was ever married. He died December 7, 1891, in Wapello County, Iowa and is buried in Agency Cemetery, Agency, Iowa.
