Clara Marguerite Allison Screws 93, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday evening in Crawford - Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Little River Wilson Valley Cemetery. Local arrangements handled by North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange St.

Marguerite was born on November 29, 1920 in Belton, Texas to Ernest and Ada Allison. She had one older sister, Marie Allison Bennett. Marguerite married Charles Screws on July 14, 1944. They have two children David Allison and Beverly Pirtle. Marguerite grew up in Little River, Texas. She graduated from Academy High School, and if you were to ever ask she was proud to say she was an Academy Bumble Bee.
After graduation she worked at the General Store which included the ice house, post office, etc. Marguerite also worked as the ticket agent for Arcadia Movie Theater in Temple, Texas. She did vocational training for business and moved to Washington D.C to work for the State Department. After working for the State
Department of Washington D.C during WWII she moved back to Temple, Texas and became an employee for the MK&T Railroad Station where she was later proposed to by Charles. The happy couple lived in nine different states and Puerto Rico. While living the military life style, Marguerite enjoyed playing in Bridge Clubs and had the highest award of Masterpoints. In 1968 they moved to Abilene, Texas.

Marguerite is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Ret. Charles Screws. Son David Allison and wife Betty, daughter Beverly Pirtle. Grandchildren Katie Elliott and husband Jeff, Josh Cochran and wife Tracy, Lacy Strelec and husband Jon. Great grandchildren Kelsey, Molly, Allison, Jake, and Logan. Great – great - grandchildren, Lily and Harper.
