Victoria -- Mary A. Weigel, 78, Victoria, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at St. John's Rest Home, Victoria.

Mrs. Weigel was born Mary Hammerschmidt on Dec. 7, 1920, near Ogallah and was a lifetime resident of Victoria.

She was a nurse's aide for 27 years at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays and a senior companion for five years. She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Altar Society, both of Victoria.

She was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Thomas; and a daughter, Kathleen Weigel.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred G. of Victoria; six daughters, Theresa Klaus and Betty Denning, both of Victoria, Norma J. Weigel and Agnes Weigel, both of Hays, Twila Weigel of Hill City and Estella Weigel of Salina; four brothers, Richard Hammerschmidt of Hays, Elias Hammerschmidt of Kingman, Elmer Hammerschmidt of Salina and Alvin Hammerschmidt of Hutchinson; four sisters, Sister Armella Hammerschmidt of Fond du Lac, Wis., Helen Mohl of Russell, Irene Pfannenstiel of Lawrence and Viola Robben of Walker; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, the Rev. Frank X. Grinko officiating. Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery. A vigil will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Christian Mothers Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella rosary at Cline's Mortuary in Victoria.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Rest Home, Victoria. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria 67671.
