Dorothy June Carpenter, 78, of West Terre Haute passed away at 4 p.m. Saturday March 15, 2008, at Meadows Manor North Retirement and Convalescent Center in Terre Haute.

She was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Edgar County, Ill., to Taft Abrams and Edith Williams Abrams.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James J. "Buddy" Carpenter, on Oct. 1, 1969; and by her second husband, Leeman F. Burch, on Sept. 15, 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia June Carpenter of West Terre Haute; three sons, James T. Carpenter, Steve A. Carpenter and his wife Jill, and Jay Carpenter, all of West Terre Haute; a stepson, Leeman F. Burch Jr. and his wife Veronica of Garland, Texas; two brothers, Ralph A. Abrams and Charles A. Abrams; 12 grandchildren, Jamie, Kristy, Amy, Bridgett, Billy, Piney, Rona, John, Jimmy, Brandon, Kelby, and Roscoe; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Dax; two granddaughters, Lisa and Samantha; a stepdaughter, Edna Rowena Kesster; an infant sister; and an infant brother.

She was a graduate of the former Concannon High School. She also had owned and operated Cindy's Ceramic Shop in West Terre Haute. She enjoyed crocheting, and working on crafts.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with her son, Steve Carpenter, officiating.

Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and prior to services Thursday.
