Son of William & Annie (Murphy) Barrett.

Enlisted Dec. 22, 1905 in the U.S. Army (field artillery, 6-yr term).

Re-enlisted in 1912.

Appointed 1st lieutenant on Nov. 27, 1917

Attended officers training at Plattsburg in Aug., 1917 and advanced to captain on Sept. 13, 1918.

Instructor of bayonet fighting, rifle firing, horsemanship & gunnery at field artillery officers training schools from Aug., 1917 to Feb., 1919.

Awarded three chevrons for heroic service.

Discharged at Camp Zachary Taylor, KY on Apr. 3, 1919.

Barrett was also a musician and bandleader of local groups, including Barrett's orchestra.
