Paul Craft served six years in the Coast Guard Reserve and graduated from the University of Virginia. He was a member of American Mensa, a group whose IQ is in the top two percent of the population. During his early career he recorded with Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys on Decca Records. He wrote his first song in Nashville, Tennessee in 1966 at age twenty eight. By 1976, he had thirty five recordings of his songs which included three top ten records when Chet Atkins signed him to RCA Records. As a writer and publisher, he was responsible for four number one records. The Gambler, recorded by Kenny Rogers; Fool For Your Love recorded by Mickey Gilley; Falling Out of Love recorded by Reba McEntire and Brother Jukebox recorded by Don Everly. His greatest commercial success came in 1990 with Brother Jukebox, recorded by Mark Chesnutt, ranking number one for two weeks on the country charts. Craft also contributed songs made famous by Bobby Bare, Gail Davies, Jerry Lee Lewis, T. Graham Brown, Keith Whitley, Ray Stevens, Moe Bandy, Alison Krauss, the Eagles, Barbara Mandrell and Linda Rondstadt. Paul Craft was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 5, 2014.
