Passed away Friday, March 24, 2006 at his home. Joe was born February 4, 1935 in Porters Falls, West Virginia, the son of Melvin and Zona (Fair) Hawkins. He has lived in the Gobles area all of his life where he graduated from Gobles High School in 1954 and was a proud member of the 1954 Class D Basketball State Champions and a member of the Gobles High School Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, retired from Rockwell Int. where he worked for 30 years, worked at Alloy Steel, Gobles for 8 years, and was a member of the American Legion Post 89, Allegan and the F.O.E., Allegan. Joe loved to fly, owned his own airplane and also restored an airplane; he enjoyed building model aircrafts for his children and grandchildren, loved Harley Davidsons, was a vintage car enthusiast, and enjoyed ice fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending his class reunions. Surviving are his wife, Sue; 3 children, Wanda (Paul) Miller of Gobles, Dale (Rhonda) Hawkins of Battle Creek, Carol (Jeff) Welcher of Plainwell; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, and Thomas Miller, Alyssa Weaver, Lauren Hawkins, Sydney and Ryan Welcher; 1 sister, Sis (Paul) Filip of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. The family will meet friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. The family suggest memorials to the Wings of Hope Hospice, Allegan.
