FRED A. WAGNER, 74, of 153 W. Main St., died unexpectedly at 10:30 a.m. today at his home. He had been in failing health for a number of years. His death was attributed to a heart attack.
Mr. Wagner was born at Capon Springs, W.Va., April 30, 1897, son of the late Harry A. and Annie Orndorff Wagner . The family moved to Waynesboro in 1912.
During World War I, Mr. Wagner served with the U.S. Army.
He learned the plumbing trade with the firm of Englar and Albert, and following his discharge from the service in 1919, Mr. Wagner was employed by the late Benjamin Stoner. He and his father operated a plumbing business of their own for a number of years, and prior to ill health forcing his retirement in 1952, Mr. Wagner was last employed by Carl Stover.
He and Mrs. Wagner were married in June, 1925, and had made their home on West Main Street since 1959.
Mr. Wagner wasa member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
In addition to his widow, Mrs. Mae Leiter Wagner, he is survived by three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Charles Koser, Cumberland, Md., Mrs. Earl Recher , Smithsburg; William K. Wagner, Wayne Heights and Mrs. Melvin Smith, Waynesboro.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Grove Funeral Home in charge of Pastor Glenn L. Stahl. The interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
